BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

Outside the church
OLM will hold a special blessing for our pets and animals. This blessing is celebrated in conjunction with the Feast of St. Francis (October 4). We will give thanks to God for the animals that share our lives and we will ask God to watch over them. Please let your friends know about this blessing and invite them to be present.

Come join our celebration fundraiser of what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday! Live in concern -- the band that became The Beatles, The Quarrymen are here direct from Liverpool! Also appearing are The Malibooz as a benefit for Our Lady of Malibu School in memory of Monsignor John Sheridan and Sister Mary Campbell.

One of Our Lady of Malibu's founding members, Eleanor Starlin died on Tuesday, September 14th at home with her family. A reception will follow the mass in Sheridan Hall. Please keep Eleanor and her family in prayer.

Paul J. Contino is Professor of Great Books at Pepperdine University. Before coming to Pepperdine, he received his Ph.D. at the University of Notre Dame, after which he taught for twelve years at Christ College, the honors college of Valparaiso University. Now beginning his eighth year at Pepperdine, he serves with his wife, Maire Mullins, as Co-editor of the journal Christianity and Literature. In 2006, he was awarded the Howard A. White Award for Teaching Excellence. His work has appeared in Religion and Literature, Studies in the Novel, Renascence, Religion and the Arts, The Cresset, Commonweal, America, Image and The Christian Century. He and Maire have two daughters, Mai Rose and Teresa Marie.
